HARM REDUCTION

Harm reduction is a pragmatic response that focuses on keeping people safe and minimizing death, disease, and injury associated with higher risk behavior while recognizing that the behavior may continue despite the risk. “Harm Reduction: A British Columbia Community Guide” (2005).

 

 Harm reduction entails a wide range of support services assist people to be safer and healthier.

• Supply distribution (Safer substance use supplies, Safer sex supplies)  

• Naloxone program

• Substitution drug therapies

• Outreach and education to encourage safer behavior

• Supervised consumption or overdose Prevention Sites.

• Peer support programs

• Impaired driving prevention campaigns
